Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

    What is Nightlock?

Nightlock is a floor mounted door security device designed to reinforce inward opening doors. It anchors into the structural floor and creates a physical barrier at the base of the door when engaged. It works alongside your existing lock to provide an additional layer of internal door security.

Is the Nightlock product easy to install?

Yes. Installation is designed to be straightforward and can typically be completed in around 20 to 30 minutes.

The door fixings use binding post style bolts that pass through the door and secure into a tamper resistant rounded head unit on the opposite side. These are adjustable to suit doors approximately 1½ inch to 2 inches thick.

The floor plate is secured using 2 inch screws and is supplied with suitable anchors for installation into solid surfaces such as tile or concrete. Where carpet is present, a small section may need to be carefully cut away before fixing the plate into the structural floor beneath.

All required fastening hardware is supplied with the product.

Is Nightlock suitable for fire doors?

Suitability for fire doors depends on the specific door type and regulatory considerations. We recommend reviewing manufacturer documentation and checking with your responsible building professional before installation. Otherwise, get in touch and we can help answer your query.

How quickly can it be deployed?

Nightlock is manually operated from inside the room. Once installed, it can be engaged quickly when required by placing the device into the fitted floor plate and positioning it against the door.

Does the floor plate pose a trip hazard?

The Nightlock floor plate is almost flush to the floor meaning tripping is highly unlikely.

When not in use, where do I keep the removable barricading handle so it’s safe & readily available?

A wall box is provided to hold the handle. Mount in a secure place near the door or easily accessible location.

How do I know if Nightlock is right for my premises?

The suitability of Nightlock depends on your door type, building layout and security objectives. If you’re reviewing internal door reinforcement as part of wider security planning, contact Nightlock and we can provide clear product information to help you make an informed decision.

Is Nightlock suitable for inward and outward opening doors?

Nightlock is designed primarily for inward opening doors. Suitability for outward opening doors depends on configuration and application. If you are unsure about compatibility with your specific doors, contact Nightlock UK before ordering.

    Does Nightlock replace existing locks?

No. Nightlock does not replace your primary lock. It complements your existing door hardware by adding a separate reinforcement point at floor level. Your standard locking system continues to manage everyday access control.

Can Nightlock be used in schools and commercial buildings?

Yes. Nightlock is commonly considered for classrooms, offices, meeting rooms and other internal spaces where additional door reinforcement may support safeguarding or security planning. It may form part of a wider layered approach in response to Protect Duty considerations.

Do you offer installation services for Nightlock?

We only supply the product. Installation is designed to be straightforward and manufacturer instructions are provided with each unit. If you have questions about suitability before purchasing, we are happy to provide guidance.
